Minister: Over 6M ha of land prone to ownership disputes
Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning Minister Nusron Wahid on October 31 said 6.4 million hectares of land are subject to ownership disputes because 13.8 million title deeds were issued without land maps. According to the minister, overlapping claims are common and criminal syndicates exploit this to commit land fraud. He said the issue has been unresolved for several years and that the government is working to gradually address issues involving 1 million hectares of contested land. The Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP) has also been directed to calculate fines for 537 palm oil companies that hold business licenses without land use rights on 2.5 million hectares. These companies have established oil palm plantations without permits over the past eight years, according to Wahid, who added that his ministry will impose a moratorium on the issuance of land use permits.
